TRAIL

POWERED BY LEGS, BOSCH AND QUESTIONABLE JUDGEMENT

WHAT TRAIL IS REALLY ABOUT

THE RIDE BEYOND THE NUMBERS.

TRAIL is not a performance leaderboard. It is the pleasure of setting off on Torque with no engine noise, no timetable and enough Bosch assistance to make the next hill feel like an invitation rather than an administrative problem.

Strava supplies the facts, but the numbers are only the skeleton of each outing. The real ride is the changing surface beneath the tyres, the weather moving through the trees, the decision to investigate another turning and the state of the rider when the route finally points home.

Cannock Chase is the regular testing ground, but TRAIL also celebrates the modest local rides that keep the legs moving and the mind clear. Some adventures arrive with dramatic scenery. Others begin at the front door and still manage to be exactly what was needed.

NIX TRAIL · SCOTT ASPECT eRIDE 910

MEET
TORQUE.

Meet Torque, my Scott Aspect eRIDE 910 and the machine behind NIX TRAIL.

Torque is built for getting off the tarmac and disappearing into the woods. Powered by the Bosch Performance Line CX system and a 600 Wh battery, it gives me the freedom to explore further, climb harder and spend more time finding the trails that make riding worthwhile.

It isn't about chasing impossible speeds or turning every ride into a race. It's about getting outside, discovering new tracks, tackling the climbs and enjoying those glorious stretches where the trail opens up and everything simply flows.

I've given Torque a little NIX personality too, with flashes of orange against its Midnight Grey frame. It looks every bit as purposeful as it feels to ride.

From Cannock Chase woodland to quiet bridleways, gravel tracks and whatever interesting-looking path happens to appear around the next corner, Torque is where NIX TRAIL begins.

The rides below are the real journeys, recorded through Strava. Pick one, open the route and come along for the ride.

Cannock Chase and the quieter lines beyond it—ridden considerately, recorded honestly and usually returned from muddier.

BUILT TO MAKE
THE MAP BIGGER.

Torque is not a motorcycle wearing pedals and it is not a downhill sofa. It is a capable alloy hardtail with a powerful Bosch system, 29-inch wheels and the direct, honest feel that makes a line through the woods feel like a choice rather than a suggestion.

WHY THIS BIKE

HUMAN EFFORT.
MECHANICAL ADVANTAGE.

The electric assistance does not remove the ride—it extends it. I still choose the line, change gear, balance the bike and put effort through the pedals. The motor simply means a long climb does not have to be the end of the day.

That matters on Cannock Chase. A climb can lead to another trail, a forest road can become a useful connector and an interesting turning no longer has to be rejected because it points upwards. Torque gives me enough reserve to stay curious.

The hardtail layout is part of the appeal. It is efficient, comparatively simple and communicative beneath me. The fork deals with the front-end impacts; the rear tells the truth about the line I chose. Occasionally rather loudly.

THE HARDWARE · VERIFIED SPECIFICATION

SIX PARTS.
ONE CHARACTER.

The headline components explain why the bike feels planted on mixed ground, strong on climbs and reassuring when the trail tips the other way.

01DRIVE

Bosch Performance Line CX

Responsive assistance that rewards a deliberate pedal stroke rather than turning the ride into a free lift.

02ENERGY

Bosch PowerTube · 600Wh

An integrated reserve whose real range changes with gradients, ground, weather, tyre pressure and assistance level.

03CONTROL

SRAM Eagle · 12 speed

A properly useful spread of gears for keeping cadence sensible when a forest road suddenly points at the sky.

04FRONT END

SR Suntour XCM34 · 120mm

Enough fork travel to take the sting out of roots, stone and trail chatter while keeping the hardtail direct.

05BRAKING

Shimano four-piston hydraulic

Confident, progressive braking matters on a heavy eMTB—especially when the descent arrives faster than the climb did.

06CONTACT

29-inch wheels

They carry speed well and roll confidently across broken ground, giving Torque its planted, purposeful stance.

RELATIVE ASSISTANCE / ENERGY DEMAND

A broad, responsive band of support for technical climbs, loose ground and the stop-start rhythm of woodland trails. Pedal pressure still matters: Torque responds rather than simply surging.

THE 600Wh QUESTION

RANGE IS A RESULT.
NOT A STICKER.

A battery capacity is measurable. Mileage is conditional. These are the things I watch before deciding how adventurous the next turning should be.

CLIMBING

Repeated elevation asks for more energy.

SURFACE

Mud and loose ground increase rolling resistance.

ASSISTANCE

More support usually means fewer miles.

°

TEMPERATURE

Cold conditions can reduce usable performance.

TYRE PRESSURE

Too soft wastes energy; too hard wastes grip.

RIDER INPUT

Smooth cadence makes better use of the system.

THE NIX RULE Plan with a reserve. The final climb home is a poor place to discover that optimism is not measured in watt-hours.

FROM SCOTT TO TORQUE

MIDNIGHT GREY.
NIX ORANGE.

The Scott supplied the engineering. The orange details, practical kit and accumulated trail dust turned it into mine. Every addition has to do a job, even if looking properly NIX is occasionally the job.

01ORANGE PEDALS + GRIPSThe unmistakable NIX signature against Midnight Grey.
02ERGON SADDLEComfort that earns its place over real miles, not showroom minutes.
03SKS MUDROCKERSFront and rear defence against Staffordshire’s most abundant natural resource.
04EXPOSURE LIGHTSTrace and TraceR visibility for changing light and road connections.
05LITELOK + CHAINLayered security for the stops between the good bits.
